Losing Video Signal

My RTV 5504 has begun losing the video cable input signal. Rebooting the
RTV fixes it, but sometimes not for very long.

My cable goes through a splitter (1 to TV and 1 to RTV). Its not the cable,
because the TV is still OK.

Is is OK to use a splitter like this? Has anyone else run across this?

Unless the signal is very weak the splitter should not affect it. If it
works OK without the splitter then you need an amplifier. You might want
to try an amp at your entrance cable to boost the whole house.

To answer the immed question: It depends on the signal to the splitter,
and the splitter.

Most splitters cause around a six db reduction in the signal (2 way
splitters) more if they are 3 or 4 way splitters.

This might be enough to make a difference.... Or not... Depending on the
signal to the splitter. Some TV's it may make a difference, Some not.


I would, however, check all connections for quality. I recently had a
problem with a VCR turns out the connection had pulled loose (the cable
came out of the connector) a quick re-assembly and it's 100%


That said... This sounds like a problem with the 5504 itself, since
re-booting fixes it.
