I want to buy a Lenovo Y520 notebook and everybody says I have to buy a PCIe M.2 SSD, but I want to buy a SATA-III M.2 SSD because it is cheaper, and I don't need the high speed that PCIe offers. My question: can the M.2 SATA-III SSD be connected to M.2 port if it has a PCIe interface?
The version of the laptop that I am buying only has a 1TB HDD, but in other versions, where it features an SSD too, the SSD's interface is PCIe, which makes me think: If I buy an SSD with SATA interface, will it work if the laptop's interface is PCIe?
Neither on the manufacturer's website nor in the hardware manual there is any information about this.
I heard that some motherboards support both SATA and PCIe in the same slot, but I don't have any information about this particular laptop.
