Mac vs PC?

Alright, so this is kinda vague, but I have to get a new laptop and I'm completely torn between getting some form of Macbook or another PC tablet (I have a 2005 hp tablet now).
I'm a college senior studying music therapy so I want something that will last.

The reason I'm even getting a new laptop is because Microsoft is discontinuing Windows XP.

I would not purchase a Macbook - way too much money for very sub par hardware in a flashy case. You can definitely get a much better laptop running Windows 8.1 for far less money. If you need the software for audio production that Macs have that's one thing but if you don't then there's definitely better laptops out there.
