I have a IPAQ 3765 and I am having a problem with Media
Player. It no longer appears to be on my IPAQ. I want to
download Media Player again, but when I try to download
version 7.1, I get an error message telling me that my IPAQ
will not work with that version. What version would work
with Pocket PC 2002? I can't find my disk that came with my
IPAQ. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

My IPAQ 3970 (PC2002) uses WMP 8.5 build 12177

Media Player on the iPAQ is integrated into the OS, and thus is in ROM. The
only way to get it back is to do a hard reset.

So, why can't a new shortcut be created to it if someone posts the
pointer/target details of the shortcut?

The OP states that it appears to no longer be on her PPC. IF that is the
case, there is nothing to point to. Only a hard reset will restore it.

It's in ROM, how does the program get deleted? And if it is deleted it is
deleted, resetting doesn't undelete things. The thing that runs the program
is a pointer to READ ONLY memory. It is the pointer that is deleted, not the
program. If the program itself has gone then not even a hard reset would
work. But that would also mean more serious issues- a corrupt ROM.

Yes, a hard reset should restore use of the program, but this is by creating
a pointer to the program, it doesn't produce the program from the ether. But
recreating the pointer you should be able to point to the program in READ
ONLY memory without hard resetting.
