My notebook is a Toshiba L655-S5150. I am trying to use System Recovery from 4 DVDs to install a new hard drive. I have tried 3 different hard drives and 2 sets of Ram memory sticks, but every time the recovery install fails sometime during the third DVD. The error messages point toward several components: hard drive, DVD drive, memory, and restore media.
Since I've substituted 3 known good hard drives and 2 matched sets of RAM, and the DVD drive seems to work just fine for the first two Recovery DVDs, I'm wondering how to proceed. The most recent error message I received is as follows:
The instruction at 0x77d1205b referenced memory at 0x006d0065. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program.
Does memory refer to RAM or the Hard Drive?
