So recently we have had multiple power surges in our home and I think they messed up the TV. The HDMI component works fine and we are able to watch tv, but the second we try to change the device either with the remote or on the tv itself the picture gets oddly choppy for a few seconds and then the tv shuts off blinking the green light. I even tried going into the menu to change the device but it did the same thing. I know its an old tv but is there a simple fix for this? Maybe without having to mess with the board and capacitors.

Solution
Sounds like the TV is dead. You can try opening it up, and looking for a leaking capacitor, but may be a lot of effort for low yield that there will be anything to really fix. Besides, those new LED HDTV's are really great...
