Hello,

Can someone point me to software that builds MSI files for people who have no programming/scripting experience? All I have been able to find is MAKEMSI, and it is way to complicated for me. The MSI would be used to deploy software via group policy.

Thanks.

There is no way you will get a good MSI build with one click, often you need to open the MSI file and tweak it with something like ORCA. So if you have no programming experience or at least understand how applications work a bit, you need to get some. If you just click and point, you can easily break half of your computers with file conflicts, uninstall issues, etc...

Many programs have a silent setup you can run with a .exe, which should work with a batch file installer.

Wise is one I have used before http://www.wise.com/Products.aspx, can capture .exe file setup into a .msi format.

Never tried this one http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/convert-exe-to-msi/ http://www.qwertylab.com/FreeTools.aspx

I actually used the EXE to MSI converter from Quertylabs. Have you heard of it?
I wanted to do a mass install of wireshark. It took the .exe and made it into an MSI I could then deploy. There was no problem at all. They even allow you to script the install process by simply pointing and clicking. Pretty amazing IMO. Unfortunately it's $495 for an enterprise license. The trial impressed me, though. The only downside was I couldn't figure out a way to make the icon appear in the program menu. I used the assign method and "install at logon" in the advanced GP settings, then scripted the program to hit "next-->accept-->install" via point and clicks. I suggest people try it.
