hi all,
my birthday is coming up soon and i am hoping to get a new pair of headphones and a modmic 4.0. i am debating between the senheiser 558 or the audio-technica ad500x or 700x. witch would you recommend and which is better for the money? is it worth dishing out the money for the senheisers? these will be used primarily for gaming by the way. please provide any insight you have. thank you.

"Closed-back headphones tend to be able to produce stronger low frequencies than open-back headphones."
Also, "...they usually block some of the ambient noise, but have a smaller soundstage than open-back headphones."
Last, open-back headphones tend to leak audio (so other people can hear what you are listening to.)

I've heard great things about these...
If I was on the market, I wouldn't hesitate to buy these!

Out of the ones you've chosen I would pick...

If your gaming is tactical fps or fps of high level i would suggest 5.1 headphones.
If your gaming is another thing and just casual FPS then go for dolby headphones.
If you wanna listen to music and just gaming then go for the headphones that their impendance is ok with your sound card. If both those headphones cant work ok with your sound card (i guess its your internal motherboard soundcard?) then buy some average usb head amp and buy the headphones you like.

hope i helped! :)

I fell in love with the Philips SHP9500, they sound really good for the price.

The best thing is, that they are ridiculously comfortable after hours of gaming, where my ATH-M50s hurt like hell.

They are open air, so you will get all the spatial information you need for FPS games.
