Need advice regarding 2GB XD card

i took lot of snaps in my XD card and i wanted to watch it in the laptop before saving them. i put it in laptop(its not recognizing) so i removed it and after that i am not able to open the card with any reader. no matter where i insert it its asking me to format it. i need to retrieve my pictures. please advise
