Need Android GPS app

Hi, is there a good and free GPS app on the market place that can store maps on the memory as well as calculate route without having to connect to the Google map server every time?

I have been using the default navigation app on the phone (nexus S) and it connects to the server for maps and route detail. But when I am in the country, there is no 3G coverage and I have to use EDGE. Not only it is irritably slow, it is also costly.

Gmaps stores all tiles you load so you can preload it by viewing. You can download tile packs too.

I think gnav uses the same tiles. Might help but likely not a 100% solution.

Route data is not affected.

I dont know of any -free- solutions.

I end up getting gvSIG and downloaded the map pack for my local area and surrounding (about 80MB). This one is totally free. That should cut the data usage a bit. Meh, it still won't do off-line routing. I miss my old nokia for doing that. Thank ssdx.

Would really like a total offline solution! Anyone?

Why don't you give Mireo DON'T PANIC a try? I downloaded it from Android Market for free, and you can get a 7-day trial maps for free.

I am using Samsung Galaxy S II.

And yes, all maps are stored offline. And routing is extremely fast, I like that.

Cool. Nice find. Downloading now to give it a try.
