Sound is not coming out of my subwoofer (from monoprice). I am using the sony str-dh550 reciever via hdmi to my computer. The sound from the speakers is working fine but the subwoofer is not generating sound when video or music is playing. The subwoofer does produce sound when i do a sound test from the sound setting on the computer. I have used rca cables and subwoofer cables to connect the subwoofer.

Solution
Make sure bass management is on, meaning make sure speakers are set to small and LPF is sent to the sub. Also, make sure you are not running direct/pure direct mode (or whatever the Sony equivalent is). Since testing the speakers will get the sub to play, it's most likely the above issue.

And just to be sure, on the PC make sure that speakers are set to full range (you don't want the PC handling any type of bass management). Since the sub isn't playing, most likely this is already correct.

I am getting sound from the subwoofer when the receiver is on AM radio. So it might be an issue with my pc set up. However, i am having the same issue when i hook up the receiver to my mac via hdmi. The sound is working but the subwoofer is not on the mac.

You sir are a god amongst men. Changing the speakers to small worked. Thanks a bunch.
