Need help with PC for VFX/3D work (Maya, Nuke, AE, C4D, Photoshop...)

Hi guys.

So I've been a mac user for the last 8 years or so, and am looking to get into a new computer. I can't afford 3K for a new mac, so am thinking about switching back over to PC.

The work I do is mainly VFX and 3D related, and something with good power for rendering would be nice. I'm normally just working on 1080 footage, but there exists the possibility of maybe doing work on 2K, or even 4K.

I could probably spend around $800 or so for the computer. I have a monitor. I've never built a computer, so am hesitant about going that route.

What do you think the best option would be? I realize $800 isn't much to work with. Should I get a ready-made HP or Dell? Build? Save up more money?

Desktop. Probably need to spend more than that huh? The more I read about it, the more I think I would be into building one. Sure I have a friend who would help.

You will get alot of answers and info in 1-2 hours. Most people wont bother to answer you if you dont use the proper format to ask for help.
