my daughter how will be going into her 3rd yr. of college for ind. enginenering wants a mac because she said it is fast. She has a 17' sony vaio that is 2yrs old this month. I don't have with me so don't have spec. but it was only like $800 back then so not close to top of the line and it has win. vista 32 bit.

I told her for the price we could get a new laptop that would hold it's on agaist a macbook I think it is. I told her hardware now vs 2yrs ago is much stronger and win. 7 64bit is super and vista also sucked. She likes my desktop I did last summer that is running win. 7 64bit pro and 4-core amd 965 4gig ram.etc.

Help me know what is right a stripped down mac or for that same money a souped up pc laptop. Also she wants a lighter unit like 13.6 screen. help please she will read this to

Normally I would say go with Mac since their laptops are just amazing! I use my Macbook Pro for Music Production! :D But if you want a better bang for the buck, as the best Macbook Pro does start at $2499, go with an MSI Laptop.

This one here knocks off a grand and has 12gb of memory, a new Sandy Bridge i7 at 2.0GHz (with a Turbo Boost of 2.9GHz), a 1.5GB 560m GPU, 1080p resolution, a THX certified Integrated Sound Card, a Card Reader, 1TB HDD @ 7200rpm (500GB x2), and to top it off it does have USB 3.0! ;)

So my recommendation is go for something like this one. You can even add a decent SSD if you want too!

Anyways, hope that helps!
