Hello.

I have a Lenovo G50 running Windows 8.1. A few days ago when my system booted up, I got the message the Synaptics device could not be found. So I had to download the driver recommended on the Lenovo site. The download will not install. So I downloaded from Synaptics, and although I was able to install a newer version of the driver, it only has a 2 finger scroll option. (They are using the 1 finger options for swiping in the new Windows environments.)

Because of deformity in my hands, I cannot use the 2 finger method very well. I have looked at other discussion groups, and have tried the solutions there, but either cannot install the driver or can only install another driver without the 1 finger option. I do have Admin authority.

Has anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve it? The only option I am seeing at the moment is to wipe the disk by using the recovery button for the factory install partition. That would mean rebuilding a machine that I have been growing for over a year. You know what a tedious task that is.

Thank you for your time.

Hi,

Please do try these tutorials from Synaptics themselves on how to use 2 finger gesture.

If this doesn't work uninstall/reinstall the touchpad driver again from Lenovo support site. Here's the link for the touchpad driver. https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/2xtp00ww.exe. Reboot your laptop once the driver has been installed again.
Yes, basically you shouldn't be using drivers direct from the device manufacturer. Only those from the laptop maker are going to work properly. I know you tried that first & it wouldn't install - - beats me why it wouldn't. I suggest you try again, restart windows before trying to install it.
