Re laptops/notebooks/..: which can be used for *Nix'es and which cannot; and why not?

I am considering several: Asus eee pc 1201N, or other Asus eee pc's, or several that use
the Intel N270 processor: http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=41411,36331,35641,

I solicit your considered thoughts.

what do you mean by "means to install the os"? what would not constitute "means"?

what can be said about 64-bit *Nix'es versus 32-bit versions?

aslo, let me add that i want to use the laptop to practice programming -- C++, Java, scripting-- so the laptop will need to support emacs, lint and other ancillaries, and -- preferably, not required -- a compiler.

Now, what laptops are candidates?

I think he just means some way to get the o/s actually loaded, ie cddrive, usb thumbdrive (providing you can boot from usb) etc.

As far as which laptop well, any really just depends how much performance you need.
