I've been looking for an MPEG editor. Windows XP has one that would be
GREAT except for the fact that it only saves edited files in .WMV format.

Tightwad that I am, I looked everywhere I could think of for a free MPEG
editor, and found none. I looked for one from $10 and under, for $20 and
under, and finally for $30 and under, but I haven't been able to find
anything yet.

They usually cost $40-50 or more, and while they might be worth it with all
the many features they have, I hate paying for all those features I don't
want and won't use.

Doesn't anyone have a simple, cheap MPEG editor?

If the editing you want to do only requires making cuts, then there
are a number of choices available. see www.videohelp.com
If you want a cheap Editor that can do what MS Movie Maker
can do, but also output MPEG try this:

Use the Froogle feature of Google. Using "Video Deluxe 2.0
Plus" I found a good 32 track editing program with a built-in
Ligos "Go-Motion" MPEG encoder for $9.95. You should be
still able to find it for under $15.

Luck;
