Nvidia drivers crashing my 650m after I restart

I have a pretty old laptop running a 650m. Max temps on it while playing hovers around 80C. I do frequent cleanings of my laptop. Recently. After i installed the new nvidia drivers (384.76), everything ran fine. Later when i shut off my laptop and turned it on the next day, my drivers began to crash. So i removed them using a tool called DDU. And reinstalled the drivers. No issues. I restarted again after installing some game update and the crashing began again. It seems that after i install the drivers and restart my laptop, it starts crashing anywhere from 3-15 minutes of gameplay. Some games like overwatch say its my laptop being overclocked, while others like dota 2 just crash the nvidia driver and i get a notification. Any way to fix this? I am on high performance mode already.

Tldr, Nvidia drivers crash only a laptop restart and I have to reinstall.

Lots of people have reported issues with 384.76 drivers, from graphics glitches to system crashes. There's even an Nvdia hotfix for Watchdogs 2 crashing which is the largest complaint. However some are reporting issues with CS:GO, WoW, and GTA V as well as a few other games (have not seen anyone mention Overwatch or DOTA2). Try removing the drivers completely then installing WHQL 382.53 (release date June 9).

Why don't you roll back to the one before? Did you complain on here and leave your Specs?

I haven't read through it but maybe say something and check if others have the same issue. Personally I would roll back to one that worked.

The last driver I had was from over a year ago. Ill try one from a few months back. I haven't complained on there yet. I will be sure to do so. Thanks!

Nothing worked. The drivers you suggested made it last around 30 minutes before crashing, so thats something. I dealt with it for another few weeks then gave in and re installed windows. Everything is fine now.

Wow. Then something got corrupted deep in the Windows registry. It happens, but it's pretty rare. Wiping out and reinstalling is always a last resort. In the old days (Win 95, Win98) many would wipe out their HDD annually and reinstall because the early Windows OSs had crappy file management and would choke down PC performance with old files. It got better with XP onward (I still run an old Core 2 Duo gaming rig built back in 2009 with the original Vista install).
