Panasonic 1080 37inch TV - not a crisp picture

Hello, i just bought a new TV. I have a Virgin HD box. The picture is not as crisp as i thought it would be. I am only using a normal scart lead. If i get a HDMI cable will that make the difference or will that just work on HD channels?

i got an hdmi cable for my panasonic plasma that i JUST bought and it makes a huge difference with the sound. i bought a REALLY cheap on from amazon. BUT the cable company i use offers free HD channels and all you have to do is bring in the old receiver and get a free exchange for the HD receiver
