Pascal Laptops and Thunderbolt 3

So I am in the market for my first gaming laptop, as the new pascal tech has swung me to the laptop side of things. I am however a bit disappointed to find that very few of the 1070 equipped laptops so far are supporting Thunderbolt 3 connections. I believe only the ROG V752vs is sporting TB3 and while it looks like a pretty great laptop, it is the most beastly of the bunch at almost 10 lbs. and $2000 minimum. The reason I'm interested in TB3 is the idea of future proofing, in that it opens up the potential to hook up external graphics such as the Razer Core when inevitably newer gpu tech leaves even the 1070 in the dust. What do people feel about TB3 graphics? Am I irrationally discounting good laptops in hope for a yet to be truly proven tech? Also, I may have missed some 1070 equipped laptops out now or soon to be out that have TB3?

Don't bother, by that time you'll need a new laptop anyway. Future proofing laptops is like saying you want to grime-proof your car, no matter how hard you try it ain't going to really work in the long run

I don't intend to offend you but getting the razer core is just stupid

The razer core costs $500 plus a more powerful graphics cards which costs at list $400 that's $900 when pascal laptops itself already feature very powerful GPUs with no need of external expansions that affect portability.

The GL502VS has a 1070 and costs $1699, If you really want to take advantage of the razer core get a laptop with no dGPU, a good CPU with thunderbolt and add the razer core. Nevertheless, even in that situation I don't see the point of spending that much money on the razer performance wise will be the same

Fair point but I was thinking more that the price for a core would drop over the next 2-3 years, around the time I might want upgrade the gpu without buying a new laptop. I don't really need an eGPU for anything other than adding the ability to upgrade, so at the current price point it's definitely not worth it for me.

Personally I wouldn't bother as pascals gpus are very powerful and can compete against the desktop counterparts. If you are going to get desktop gpu, I would recommend that you buy a desktop as you have the space to put the gpu. The best way to ensure that the laptop last long is to get a drt as they are very close to desktops except for screen size and refresh rate. The other components are just as maintainable as the desktops but the desktops have a lot of power.

I don't expect the razer to come down in price much. It was a failed release becase a few months later pascal laptops appeared

And if you don't need a dGPU at all why do you think of buying the razer then? You'll never require a GPU either way

Anyone who thinks the razor core is stupid hasn't a clue. Sure it's an expensive upfront cost, but it doesn't work just once. You'll be using it with all your future laptops and all your future video cards. As long as it doesn't fail, that's money you won't need to spend again, unlike laptops and video cards.

but as cards gens will change they will become more demanding definitely recurring new motherboard and with time thunderbolt's 3 speed of 40Gbps (on paper, 30 Gbps in reality) won't be enough to connect new hight end cards.
