Solved! PC to HDTV Video Problam

I recently tried hooking up my Dell Inspiron 531s to my new Emerson 40" LCD HDTV with a VGA to HDMI cable through the DVI port with an adapter of course but i get no video. I also recently tried to hook up audio this way too only I used a 3.5mm to RCA converter and hooked it up through my speaker jack with no success either. What am I doing wrong?

A VGA to DVI cable is useless. You need and adapter to convert the video and audio output from the Dell to HDMI. Sound like you need a DVI + audio to HDMI adapter. Some of these need digital audio out so make sure you get the right one.
