Solved! Possible to upgrade into Pentium M?

Hi I was thinking to upgrade my old Asus laptop into Pentium M. Here are the details of the motherboard.
Laptop Model – Asus A6R
Motherboard brand– Asustek Inc.
Motherboard Model – A6R
Motherboard Chipset – RS400/RC400/RC410
Package – Socket 479 mPGA
Southbridge – SB400
Bios version – 213

May I know which of the following mentioned below are the possible fastest upgrade option based on my laptop specs before I will buy the CPU at ebay???

My Asus laptop Specs as follows:
Intel Celeron M ( Dothan)
Frequency - 1.6 GHz
FSB – 400MHz
L2 Cache size - 1 MB
Socket 479 mPGA

Upgrade option 1
Intel Pentium M (Banias)
Frequency - 1.8 GHz
FSB – 400MHz
L2 Cache size - 1 MB
Note – FSB and Cache size are the same values as my laptop.
The frequency though is 1.8 GHz only.

Upgrade option 2
Intel Pentium M 765 (Dothan)
Frequency – 2.1 GHz
FSB – 400MHz
L2 Cache size - 2 MB
Comment – My Asus laptop cache size is 1MB only.
I don’t know if this 2MB cache size could run swiftly.

Upgrade option 3
Intel Pentium M 780 (Dothan)
Frequency – 2.26 GHz
FSB – 533MHz
L2 Cache size - 2 MB
Comment –My Asus laptop FSB & Cache size are 400MHz &
and 1MB respectively.
I don’t know if this 533 MHz frequency & 2MB size could run swiftly.

If there’s other upgrade options besides the above mentioned you may suggest pls let us know. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers!

Hi, from what I've been able to find searching the web your laptop will run only at 400MHz FSB, I did find several people who were successfully running pentium-M's on it, as long as they were 400FSB. The cache is a part of the CPU itself, its size will not have any impact on whether the CPU can be used or not.

The fastest 400FSB pentium-M is the 765, 2.1GHz 2MB, you are unlikely to be able to run anything faster than this on that laptop.

And the 765 is UBER expensive. Sweet point is the 1.6 or 1.7 (Pentium M 725 / 735-- a 745 is more than twice the price of a 735) which is still better than the Celeron, but I haven't really noticed much of a difference in general computing, so I'd say it's really not worth it.

Maybe because the frequency of your Celeron M is nearly same as Pentium M 725 / 735 but definitely the battery life of Pentium M is longer. Are you currently using both Celeron M & Pentium M?

Searching for them again as I did not bookmark them, here is one that it worked but only ran at 400FSB even though it was a 533FSB chip, looking for the other articles still.

I have a laptop with a 910GM and a Pentium will run in it just fine, but in comparison to the Celeron M that was in it. . not much a perceived difference. I'm saying if you really want to squeeze every last available drop of performance I won't condemn you for it, but I'd rather put that $20 towards more storage or maxing out the RAM or gas for the car or next month's water bill or taking the kids to Moe's.
