I have a asus k55VM notebook. Lately i have been facing a lot of problems....
i got d usual virtual dump blue screen which continued with a lot of restarts and repairs but in vain..so i decided to re-install d windows but it just wont install!!!!
The setup copies d files but d step after that took nearly 4 hours to complete.
Now, i have done this bfore and i know it never takes as much time as 4 hours!!!
I consulted an asus service centre and even he was helpless with the installation process.....he then told me that my hard-drive might be corrupted or there are bad sectors in it.....i dont have any idea about it whatsoever....plzzz help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try to use Killdisk (download and burn a bootable CD or other media, then boot from it) to perform a full erase of that HDD (system partition). If it has any life left in it, this should solve temporarily the problem, until you get a HDD replacement. Reinstall OS after doing that.

@house70......is it really d case that i will have to get my HDD replaced?? coz m not that sure thats its d HDD dats giving me d problems....

It certainly sounds HDD related. Only other thing I could think that would cause installation to hang for so long is a bad build of Windows.

If you can access the command prompt via the recovery options with your Windows disc, then you can try out the sfc /scannow command line, although I think there are additional commands to enter when doing it from the disc, so that it scans the appropriate directory.

If your HDD is a few years old, and the laptop has been traveling (i.e. not a stationary system), chances are the HDD is bust. Like I said, you could potentially run that program on it and maybe squeeze a few more months out of it, but I would NOT use that HDD to place any important data on it.

How did you try to perform the reinstallation of Windows? Did you try using the hidden partition that is built into the system? If not you can give that a try. Simply press the F9 key when the system boots up and you see the Asus logo. Then simply follow the onscreen instructions. If it doesn't complete then it would be most likely a HDD issue.
