At one time the chances were at 97%, but in the last few months, the chances are dwindled. I really don't know the answer. The manufacturer may have locked the bios or cut the shaders off.

Ordered from Newegg yesterday

His HD6950 No Bios SwitchClick Here

hisnoswitchsuccess.png

Followed steps 1-13 and this is the result Success I guess
Not only the shaders went up but also the Pixel fillrate from 25.6 to 28.2
and Texture fillrate from 70.4 to 84.5 Both 6970 figures. But this is based on Gpu clock speed.
More GPU clock speed more texel pixel's
Thanks for the hard work dude
Appreciate it alot

I just received the same HIS 6950 (no bios switch) from newegg a day ago.

I flashed it as described in post #1, and got fairly similar results.

shaders
1408 to 1536

pixel fill rate stayed the same (Will this go up when i overclock a little?)

texture fillrate
73.9 to 80.6

edit: oh and my 3dmark06 went from 20945 to 22143...still a little low but I'm happy with it.

Ya, you just need to OC it now if you want 6970 levels. This method unlocks the shaders, but doesn't set the clocks to 6970 levels, but MSI Afterburner can let you do that (after you disable the OC limits).

Thank you so much for this tutorial @bystander. Amazing - I got my brand new 6950 today (HIS 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2GB) and I just successfully unlocked the shaders with your step-by-step instructions. Awesome! I just registered here to let you know 😉

Awesome, it's good to see people are still having success. I keep hearing about those who were not successful, but the successes are the ones I like to hear about.

Friends, good morning!
Congratulations for the information!
I tried to do here but it did not in my right, I tried the WinFlash topic and also the latest one and nothing, I think my card is blocked from the factory.
Using a XFX 6950 2gb 830mhz clocked original
I use it in the TRIXX 900/1325 with 1.15V, looks great, but I would have been able to unlock the shaders ....
A pity, yet thanks to all.
Hugs

Are you the guy from HardOCP I sent this link to?
Anyway congrats

Thanks so much for your tutorial, bystander. I received the HIS IceQ X 6950 a few weeks ago from Amazon and I stumbled upon this thread and I successfully unlocked the shaders.

I have tried the OP's method to unlock the shaders only and ran into the following error when running the batch file....

Could not find byte sequence in file.

The card is a Sapphire 6850 2gb Toxic edition. Does anyone have any tips on what that error means?

I tried to flash to 6970 BIOS but nothing changed in terms of shader count so I assumed that it would not work on my cards. The process completed but no change in shader count or memory clock speeds.

This will not work with 6850 cards. This is for 6950's only. If you typoed, it might mean you didn't put the right file in the script folder, or it was already altered.

Thanks bystander, it was a typo , i copied the bios on the card and saved it to the desktop and thought I followed the OP's instructions to the letter, but I will try again.

Can you explain already altered? If that was the case can I copy the BIOS from position 2 and try with that copy?

Hey, I just got a new pc with the 6950 toxic edition. I followed the first method to unlock my card. It said the unlock was successful but when I rebooted my pc the shaders were the same. Any ideas?

That means the shaders were cut or do not work. There is nothing you can do.

Atm, the only card I've heard of recently that could unlock was the HIS IceQ Turbo.

Just purchased this Frozr II card from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127588). Is this the same card you were able to flash with the MSI unlocked Frozr III PE bios? Do you recommend I give it a shot? I do have a second card I could use to attempt to restore the bios in the event that I brick it. If you don't recommend using the modified bios, do you have any recommendations to increase the performance of my card?
