Re-using DVI cable with HDMI source and target

I have an existing DVI cable (4 years old) installed in a ceiling. Proposing to buy HDMI source (PC or Xbox via AV Receiver) and HDMI target (projector). Can I use the old DVI cable for the HDMI video signal (audio is handled by the AV Receiver anyway), as replacing the DVI cable will involve significant work? Many thanks. Brian

Should be fine, especially if you're not using any particularly recent HDMI features. So long as it's a decent quality cable, you'll be fine.

Many thanks Someone Somewhere - that was a quick response! What 'recent HDMI features' am I likely to miss out if I use DVI for video?

I'm not entirely sure, and think it depends on how the adapters are wired. You'll probably miss out on CEC and audio, and the cable might not be up to anything above 1080p60. 4K is probably out, and 3D is a maybe.
