Removing the Monitor from a Dell 15R 5520

I have removed the monitor from a Dell 15R 5520 laptop, as I would like to use just an external monitor, however, whenever I boot the system up, I get 8 beeps, the fan stops on it's own, and nothing is displayed on said external monitor.

8 beeps on a Dell 15R indicates an LCD failure (surprise). Does the laptop shut itself down, or does the fan just stop?
