Running out of Storage....What are my options?

I have an older Dell XPS 13 with 128GB of SSD Storage. I didn't really think to much about the SSD size until I started installing apps and putting some of my music and photos onto my mac. Before I new it, I was running low on storage.

I started using USB Flash drives to off load some of the content, but I've soon run into the issue of having too many USB flash devices and/or losing, misplacing them.

I use drop box a little, but not too much. How do others handle running out of storage? I have a new product idea to address this issue. Those who are willing, I would appreciate some feedback. Any assistance would be great. Otherwise, just respond to the forum and provide some advice on how to address the running out of storage issue.

Buy a larger capacity SSD, Crucial and Samsung both give free drive clone tools, clone, and you're set.

also, in your house, you can buy a NAS so you can access your files from the network

Pingd: Thanks for your response. The problem with my older dell XPS is that the space for the mSATA is small, the larger capacity SSDs tend to be be too large for the space provided internally. So I'm not sure the larger 256GB comes in the smaller mSATA form factor but I'll look around. Also, I void my warranty as soon as I do that.

Cons29: An external HDD can work, however, you can't really install applications on an external hdd. I guess you can, but then you always have to be tethered to it which isn't very convenientI, but it is an option.

I have a NAS that I use for backup, but because the content is only available when I'm at home, when I'm on the road, it doesn't help. So for me, NAS is less of an option, but I do use it for backup.

You could swap the ssd for a 500gb hdd, and use the ssd for a desktop/external storage.

You can install applications to an external drive and just keep the external drive with you. That is what I would do in this situation.

This is what I do myself, when I run out. (also I have a bunch of 300GB Seagate barracudas, but that is besides the point) I would clone the main drive onto a larger capacity drive, then use the old main as secondary storage.
