I have a Denon AVR-3806 that worked brilliantly with an older TV. Now my new Samsung 9000 TV does not see or recognize signals via HDMI that come from cable box or DVD player. Both Denon & Samsung suggest it is a generational compatibility problem. Any solutions or workarounds?

Solution
I don't think it's a "generational problem"
Assuming that both the cable box and DVD work when connected directly to the TV you should try a different HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV. Try a different HDMI input on the TV. Try turning any video processing in the Denon receiver off.
If all else fails then connect the sources directly to the TV. Connect the optical audio output of the TV to the Denon. Check the TV and Denon manuals on how to use the optical out and set the receiver to receive it.

Thanks- that's exactly the solution that worked. I had previously bought new 4k capable HDMI cables, and tried every possible configuration/ports combination. But the video is fine direct to the TV, and the optical runs from TV back to the Denon. The only additional steps were to utilize the VDP mode on the Denon designating the optical as the input, and had to change the TV audio setting from the TV switching from the TV speakers to the optical out.
