Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Updates

Hi I am planning to purchase Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2012 edition. I just want some clarification on whether I will have problems with android updates or is this 'out of date' in terms of updates and apps.

I agree. Spend the extra $$ and go Apple. I was not an Apple fan which is why i bought a Samsubg tablet. Samsung has nice hardware and zero post-sale support. I have a GT-N8013 qnd am still on 4.1.2. So I miss some functionality in apps that are written for 4.4. All the support group will say is that they cannot speculate on when an update might be available. It would be better if they just said "we have your money and if you want an update buy a new device." That would be preferable to being strung along hoping for an update.

It came to market on autumn 2012.
Got it's only upgrade already on january 2013 from 4.0 to 4.1.
Since then nothing, only fixes. It has totally been forgotten by samsung. No 4.2, 4.3, 4.4.

Don't buy it!

I recommend to skip all Samsung tablets - if they even cannot keep their premium tablets updated, don't bother!

I don't know if you can get android 5.0 but there is a custom rom download for 4.4.4. I'll give the link but, Warning! Are you really talking about Note 10.1 2012 or some other device? It has no 4.2 update.

It came to market on autumn 2012.
Got it's only upgrade already on january 2013 from 4.0 to 4.1.
Since then nothing, only fixes. It has totally been forgotten by samsung. No 4.2, 4.3, 4.4.

I also tried to update using KIES and it doesn't work. There is no update available past the one we got about two years ago. frustrating.

I have an original GT-N8000 Galaxy Note 10.1 and have just received the 4.4.2 Kitkat update automatically here in the UK.

My advice - DON'T DO IT.

It has totally wrecked my tablet. S-pen functionality has been deleted (side bar when removing pen), PSTouch app removed, awful new screen layout and so many other problems I don't know where to begin.

But worst of all, tablet is almost unuseable because of lag - up to 20 seconds to do most things, even just opening settings. And I've now noticed that on a full night's charge, the battery only got to 40%. It was perfect prior to the upgrade.

I guess I am going to have to try the painful route of taking this up with Samsung, they clearly haven't tested Kitkat properly on the device.

I also purchased the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 note at the end of 2012. I am very disappointed with Samsungs attitute to clients on keeping their premium product OUT of the product update cycle.

The Kies app that is shown somewhere in this page may be the answer without rooting. If not, no more Samsung products for me. Worth the extra bucks to get the Apple.

I agree with SamSV. When I purchased the note 10.1 when they were first released, samsung promised to keep the tablet up to date for at least 5 years. One update after the initial release and that never happened (just a lot of broken promises.)

beyond this: I have since purchased the S5 (mistake) which after just over a month of use, all the pictures and videos (no other files) disappeared. This is obviously a software issue, so I TRIED to contact samsung "support" both through phone and e-mail. On the phone "support" transferred me to the "tech support" who never answered (I sat on hold for 2 hours before I gave up.) Their e-mail "support" only sends a generic response, with no way to respond (contact information is fake, mailer-daemon.)

I had this same issue with my old LG phone, after trial and error, what I found out was that if the SD card is pulled out with out being "ejected" or using a Chinese SD card, the OS will "reformat" (not sure if its a delete all or reformat) the SD card and everything on it will be lost. Thank God for Google+ picture backup, all of the music and documents I can get again so no big deal just an inconvenience. The Chinese SD card was cheap, great while it lasted, and then died with in 6 months. Any cards that I bought in the US that are brand name SD cards I still have that are 5+ years old and still work. Now having a non-Chinese SD card, pulling the card out while the phone is on and without ejecting it, putting it in a card reader, copying the contents to a computer then putting it back into the phone would erase the card.

This could be an OS issue but I'm betting it has to do with the reason why every OS states to properly eject the card or USB drive, it can corrupt data still having electricity running to the port.

[bottom line] Unless you need the pen, don't waste your money on samsung mobile products. No updates, no support, means no more samsung for me.

I've had no problems with any apps not loading/downloading on my Note 10.1 2014. It works great, my only problem is that when I run a game the battery lasts 45 minutes, I can't figure out why. But if I run things like FB or Youtube on it then the battery will last about 5-8 hours.

I have read that Samsung is planning on giving the Note 10.1 2014 the Lollypop update in Aug/Sept 2015.

Down here in New Zealand, it takes almost forever for the official roms to get released for here. I have rooted my 2012 galaxy note tab 10.1 and have had "jelly bean", "icecrem sandwidge" and "kitkat on it. I downloaded the official german rom from a site that had the official roms and using flashing software (same as you use for applying custom firmware). And havn't had performance issues. Probably will put lollypop on it too but not expecting anything past that given the age of the tablet.

Samsung has now abandoned this tablet, and it will not be getting 5.0 or 5.1

Never buy samsung if you expect any after sale support. This is my last samsung purchase!
