Samsung UN65JS9000 - remote used to control volume on sony dvd / home theater receiver until update

I'm trying to figure out what happened to my configuration. Initially I ran setup and the smart hub remote was able to control the volume on the home theater receiver (sony davx-576 I think) while watching cable set top box. The autoupdate ran, and now I can't figure out how to get the remote to control the volume on the receiver any more. Nothing else changed. No wires were moved or disconnected. I have the audio out from the one connect box running from the optical out to the optical in on the DVD / home theater receiver. Anynet+ seems to detect the receiver, but when it's selected in the config as the speaker to use it outputs to the device rather than the tv but no remote control for volume.

Any suggestions on where to look for the problem?

Resolved it by deleting the audio source, disabling HDMI control on the DVD system and reconfiguring anynet+ to use digital audio out.
