You liberal Democrats here think that its ok to commit a crime against a republican. You think the perpetrator is innocent because its the victims fault, simply because the victim doesn,t agree with you politically. On the other hand, if a republican commited a crime against a liberal Democrat, you would be calling for the harshest of penalties. No wonder you lost the house in the last election, and you will lose the Senate and the Presidency in the 2012 elections, because the majority of Americans see how unfair, and stupid you people are showing us you are with your hypocritial comments. Keep it up and pay the political price of defeat at the ballot box!

Let's face it, he got this sentence only because she is who she is... If my email account was "hacked" that way, the perp would have gotten a slap on the wrist.

I like how people are trying to turn this into a political thing.

Most likely the authorities wouldn't even bother tracking the perp. This guy used a proxy and the FBI jumped through many hoops to track him down.

[citation][nom]thegreathuntingdolphin[/nom]The felony, and thus the year+1 day sentence, came from him trying to cover his tracks and delete everything.[/citation]

This is true, he got an obstruction of justice charge just for clearing his browser cache and internet history afterwards.

[citation][nom]zoridon[/nom]Do you realize opening up someone elses mail is a felony? He got exactly what he deserved. Just because its digital and not paper does not make it any less a crime. He should get beat as well for being such an punk. Anyone can walk up to anyone elses physical mailbox and take the mail as well, so chickenhaogie get some perspective. Open up my mailbox and take what is mine or read it and I wont be to blame when your found in the hudson river.[/citation]
Are you kidding me? It is a felony because you are using a federally owned service to deliver the mail. By using a free third party service like yahoo or google means that it wouldn't fall under the same type of jurisdiction. I am not positive about this but that has been my understanding of the law. Secondly your outspoken with someone opening a letter from your mother but then condoning murder. Even if this is suppose to be sarcastic I find it more offensive to try and say something like this, not to mention is completely invalidates your comment due to pure stupidity.

Glad he went to prison. LOL at all you f^&^ing idiots who hate Palin and somehow start trying to come to the conclusion that what he did wasn't wrong because he did it to Palin. I'd bet every dollar I had that if this happened to a politcal representative that you supported you'd all be happy he went to jail.

But then again, it's to typical of Tom's these days. People hate something so much they are completely blind to other issues. Like someone committing a crime against Apple - since it's Crapple that's the victim then somehow the crime os OK and the perpetrator shouldn;t get charged or suffer any consequences.

Consensus here seems to that if you do not like the other party, it's OK to break into an email account for political purposes. For example, I really detest that "fine" senator from the Peoples' Republic of Massachusetts. So it's apparently OK for me to break into his email accounts.

People, there's something wrong here.

[citation][nom]doron[/nom]Yet another perfect example of people who haven't the slightest clue about technology yet use them to work on very sensitive data, and of course are afraid of "hackers" because they think hacking is magical (like the ipad) and people who use magic should be burned on a stick.I say sue palin for being such a dumbass with these security questions. Dumbass.[/citation]

I'm pretty surprised that the American Court of Law hasn't bombed the ass out of this guy and his family for having exposed the weapons of mass distraction this senator had in the box..... :)
After all it's also a country of freedom of the politician first right....

[citation][nom]itpro[/nom]As I recall, there was very little official data in the "hacked" info that was released. He did however release personal emails, pictures and even phone numbers of Palin's children. If he was after her account for official reasons, there are procedures under the FOIA, but he chose to hack the account instead. In other words, he broke the law, and deserves to be punished to the fullest extent. Many of you posting here seem to be of the mind that if you agree with someone's political agenda then anything they do is justified, and if you disagree with someone's political views then anything you do against them is OK. That point of view is what is tearing this country apart. We have always had differences of opinion, but in the past we could recognize that diversity of opinions was a strength. Now, everyone seems to think that only their opinion is valid and anyone who believes differently is a moron. Hold onto your moral superiority, but remember who is responsible when our society collapses.[/citation]

Im just waiting for this to happen.

Actually no. the Consensus I am reading is that "its a crime yes, but seems a bit more harsh because of Palin's Celebrity status."

I can tell you that I know of people who have attacked websites and attacked friends of mine online and they never got so much as a slap on the wrist, or even looked into at all. Its only when you pee on the shoes of someone with political friends that the FBI gets on your ass.

Its because of who he is that he isn't in g-bay right now sucking on a soaked towel!

He hacked an email account (not convicted of this) posted a bunch of stuff to 4chan. (Another criminal act.) And then tried to delete every thing. (Felony! Convicted!) And that's what he's serving time for. Lucky for him because he's a senitors son he bisnt sitting there like he would were he not. (5+ years)

[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]All the right wing haters crack me up here, most are probably left coast idiots and New England area hippies. Middle America you know the ones that vote conservative and are smart with money, work hard for it and want to keep it. Not give it to people that dont work or deserve it with hand outs...You lefty communist socialist think your something but your not. Looks like the majority voted your buddies out of the House of Rep this past November and your just angry now, typical Libs. Sad.[/citation]

Socialism, such a terrible thing!

Imagine if other parts of our lives were run in a socialist manner... like, public roads, public highways, public Schools, city and state colleges (partly publicly funded), fire department, police, zoning codes, government funded research, water treatment/reclamation/supply, contract enforcement, national defense....

Think of the Horror!
