Well, how long will it be until they can just create tank babies? Anyone can just browse the tanks and pick out the one(s) they want, just like goldfish.

[citation][nom]dark_lord69[/nom]Yes, lets let those that can't have a baby naturally just make one. Cause then those infertile genes will be passed on and the next generation won't be able to have kids either. Does anyone else see this snowball effect?[/citation]

Are you really that much of a moron?

I'm not saying I agree with creating sperm & eggs, but are you serious that you think infertility is as simple as you or your math skills?

Even if you were right, 10-15% at each generation does not mean that after 7-10 years the entire population would be infertile. Where did the original 85-90% go? I wish your parents had been in that 10-15% group.

This is awesome science, anyone that thinks otherwise is a narrow minded, ignorant, fool. Religion only hinders the furthering of mankind, as it was originally intended to do in order to maintain control of the unwitting populaces' of the ages. Evolve people, evolve!

[citation][nom]qowieury[/nom]They tell us that killing all these children is definitely worth the many cures it will provide, the lives of (important) people it will save. Now children are being killed in order to make an advance of our understanding so that someday children could be created. How is this not selfish? People who are so unwilling to adopt that they support the destruction of (thousands?) of children so that they can support the destruction of dozens of their own children so they can have that one perfect child.[/citation]

Uh oh...looks like we have a fanatic in our midst.

As mentioned above...what children are they killing? Do you even know how they generate stem-cells? Why are you coming into a tech forum and vomiting your fanatical gibberish? Think anyone cares? I don't.

Even if your comment about "killing" was true, your logic is false. Abort one fetus...if that is how you get your stem cells...and you could theoretically create thousands of perfect clones. Just think, we could have 100,000 Woody Allen's running around.

If stem cells from adults can be transformed into sperm & egg, then technically it is possible for a couple who are both infertile to produce a child as if the child had been produced naturally. In addition, two females (fertile or infertile) can produce a girl child (XX), and two males (fertile or infertile) can produce both a female (XX) and a male (XY) child. A person can also produce a child without a partner. A female can produce a female (not a clone), though there would likely be genetic problems due to lack of alternate genes that take over for faulty dominant genes. A male can produce both a female or male child (again, not a clone) with genetic problems one would expect to see if siblings or cousins were to reproduce.

[citation][nom]Yoder54[/nom] if God made us humans who are flawed then isn't God also flawed?[/citation]

Not if he had the intention for us to be imperfect.

Genesis Chapter 1
31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.

Very good, not perfect.

I tend to agree, but it's funny how your statement sounds like something out of the Bible.

This remind me of people calling their pets children as well.
Definition of children seems to be widening every time.

As for a direct answer to the post, I have yet to see evidence of a child killed to further the research of stem cells.

"Our goal is to understand how you make ....... sperm," Renee Reijo Pera, leader of the research said
Should I tell him, or someone else will?

Is it just me, or does it seem like a really bad idea to be helping people who are naturally infertile to reproduce using technology... its like, reverse darwinism, and will spread bad genes further increasing our reliance on such technology, until we have a Children of Man scenario going on...
I feel bad for people who have this sort of problem (I'm a bad person, I actually don't), but maybe they can adopt a China baby or something?

[citation][nom]Uncle Meat[/nom]What children are they killing, exactly?[/citation]

The stem cells are taken from embryos, or for better word, early developing children. I don't think they used human embryos in this study, but if it were to reach the goals they are aiming for it would mean they need to harvest human embryos.
