Installing Oculus Setup error message: Oculus requires a CPU with SSE 4.2 support

What do you recommend?

If I have to upgrade my pc, what's the route for best value? Can I keep everything the same and just upgrade the CPU to fix the set up (and upgrade the GPU to preemptively stop the next error :p)?

I am on a tight budget. But if my CPU lacks the instructions then I'll do what I must!

We can't tell you what you can do unless you provide the specs of your current rig.

Plus, you should have checked the minimum requirements before getting the Oculus.

Your easiest way to get to a system that will support it is probably to sell all or part of what you have and start over.

There are some great build ideas here:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3127627/build-ready-build-750.html#18357499

If you have a full Windows license, then you could sell your CPU, mobo, RAM and GPU to get this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($189.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($69.88 @ OutletPC)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($34.88 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon RX 480 8GB Video Card ($239.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $534.74
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

But to properly drive VR, it may be best to wait just a bit more, save up a couple extra hundred $$, sell your current system, and start over.

Thanks for all the help!

Looks like I'll have to replace my MOBO, as it's not AM3+. I would love to save up but I'm planning on buying this month ;D

Be nice if I can bring down the budget on this ITX Build:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 Haswell Processor 3.3GHz ($189.99 @ Super Biiz)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M-ITX/AC Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($86.99 @ Super Biiz)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($34.88 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Silicon Power Silm S55 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB mITX ($300.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 130 Mini ITX Tower Case ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts Green 380W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($42.99)
Total (6 / 7 Items): $614.95

Btw.. I don't have a full license to Windows 10. So it's back to Windows 7. (ツ)

New plan!

I decided I can't afford this set up. I'm opting to sell the DK2 to pay for this Gigabyte AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB DDR5 WindForce 3 that I bought 5 seconds ago on eBay for $199. All I want to do is have Killer Instinct at max setting and GTA Online at 2560x1080. Would love to play with the oculus dev kit on windows 10 but it isn't remotely close to within my budget.

It's been a blast-processing these parts for a build. Thank you Geedwad you've spurred my thoughts!
