Socket G2 and G3 compatibility (Laptop CPU upgrading)

I'm a newbie to laptop upgrading. I know a bit about computer, but I jumped in to soon in ordering a socket G3 core i7 4700MQ CPU for my socket G2 compatible motherboard. What I want to ask here is that is socket G3 CPU compatible with socket G2 motherboard?

No, those are two completely different sockets.

No they are not compatible. G2 is rPGA 988 and G3 is rPGA946/947. Pin count is too different.

if they are the same, intel wouldn't have give them a new socket.

No. It will not work at all; best case scenario. Worst case is you wreck the cpu and your mobo.

Thank you guys for quick reply. I guess I'll have to bite it this time and save the CPU for another occasion if I ever need to upgrade a laptop with socket G3.
