Some keys on my laptop have stopped working after Windows 10 update (ASUS 1225b)

I just finished upgrading to Windows 10 on my little ASUS 1225b laptop, and so far everything is great, except for one major problem. Immediately following the update, certain keys on the keypad stopped working. Not stopped working outright, which is why I don't think this is a hardware issue, but there is something wrong on the right half of the keypad, specifically the keys that are mapped with the number pad on them.

I'm wondering if this is just a compatibility issue related to the update not being finished (like the time I went from Windows 7 to 8 and had screen resolution issues for a day or so which solved themselves when all the necessary updates finished). But as far as I can tell Windows doesn't have any more updates to apply.

Here's what happens, with the default key press result on the left and the "numlock"ed key press on the right (no, it's not as simple as turning numlock on or off):

So. when numlock is applied, it accurately maps to the alternate characters in blue that are mapped on each key, but with numlock off, the default keystrokes are all wrong.

I've tried rebooting, updating keypad drivers, turning on and off "filter keys", and any other solution I've been able to find so far, and nothing has worked.

Any ideas?

I tend to believe that Windows 10 somehow messed with BIOS. Strange thing is that I made a bootable USB drive that boots in DOS, and keyboard is working fine. This is getting very strange.....

Some facts:

-Toshiba does not have my laptop (L775) in the Windows 10 compatible list.
-Sony says that my wife's VAIO should not be upgraded yet, due to driver issues, not explaining what drivers.
-No problems on my desktop

Looking at the device manager, both keyboard and mouse driver are indicated as lenovo. Things are getting weirder LOL

Hi,
I had the same issue, which I resolved by uninstalling the synaptics pointing device driver. After uninstalling it detected the device by itself and all the keys started working as normal.
I have a Toshiba satellite L775-S7102.

Thanks for the reply Rayyan, it seems to work, but....

It now detects a lenovo pointing device and I cannot disable the mouse pad....which for me is a problem

I replied too soon. After the first shutdown-reboot, the problem reappeared....

We had same problem. Our fix was to update keyboard driver to latest version, which made it work better. Found on laptop keyboard was set to EnglishUS,and changed it to EnglishUK, it now works fine just as it did on Windows 7

Tutorial for fixing number pad if it is not working in Windows 8 or Windows 10

First step:

Left click or tap on the “Desktop” icon you have in the start screen of your Windows 8 or Windows 10 device.
Left click or tap on the “Start” button.
Left click or tap on the “Control Panel” icon you have there.
Note: Another way to open Control panel is to left click on the “Search” feature in the Charms bar and write “Control panel”. After that you need to left click on the Control Panel icon.
In the “Control Panel” window look for the “Ease of Access” option and left click on it.
Left click on the “Ease of Access Center” button.
Left click or tap on the “Change how your keyboard works” button.
You will have there a section that says “Control the mouse with the keyboard”. In that section of the window you need to uncheck the box next to “Turn ON mouse keys”.
Left click or tap on the “OK” button.

Asus is not going to fix this. I contacted support, and they wrote:

"The driver for the keyboard is built in with the recovery partition and Windows itself.

To fix your issue you will have to make a reset on the PC.
Unfortunately there are no drvier to be sent out for this specific problem.


For windows 10 you will have to go back to your previous windows installation.
To do so, open the start menu click settings, under update and security you have "recovery", here you have the option to go back to windows 7/8."

I installed Windows 10 on an Asus s200e and keyboard seemed to work Ok, but the touchpad had no click controls. Tried various quick fixes in the mouse settings, but then gave up. Fortunately the roll-back to Windows 8.1 worked perfectly and so am now up and running again. Figure I'll try again in a few months when hopefully the drivers will be sorted out.

If you look in the device manager and it shows the mouse as a lenovo device, simply rollback the driver. After rolling it back it will say synaptics. Reboot and the keys will work. The problem is a conflict with the driver when it is recognized as a lenovo

Works ok. I have a Vaio VGN-ARJ71J with 100% dead keyboard after upgrade to W10. Uninstall Synaptics P.D fix it.

I think I found a solution - at least a temporary one. Go to the device manager, find the Lenovo Pointing Device, and right click to uninstall. When you do this, it should ask if you want to delete the device driver software from your system - let it do so. This will prevent it from reinstalling the Lenovo drivers upon restart. Instead, the proper generic Synaptics ones get installed.

If you find that Windows Update is breaking things after you apply this fix, you can use the "Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter" located at https/support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 to hide the problematic driver update.

I found solution to the problem, it works with my ASUS 1225B.

1. Uninstall Touchpad and keyboard drivers with delete option
2. Restart
3. Instal Synaptics TouchPad driver from Asus website
4. Instal KBfilter from Asus website
5. Instal Hotkey service from Asus website
6. Restart

The NumLock key should work now.

Windows 10 does seem to have many issues with input devices on older laptops

In my opinion we just have to wait for SP1 for Windows 10 and then mayby everything will work fine. Drivers is the other thing thats why i made my small one Win 10 exept the primary one

I also have the same Asus laptop, with the same fn key problem. After uninstalling synaptics touchpad driver from the uninstall program list, I get use of the right half of my keyboard again. The only problem I have now is windows 10 keeps reinstalling this driver weekly. So I have to uninstall the driver and reboot to get my keyboard working again.

Problem Solved.

Browsing the DEVICE MANAGER I un-installed the following 3 items:-

Human Interface Devices> TOSHIBA HOTKEY DRIVER *** Substitute TOSHIBA with your own LAPTOP MAKE

Keyboards > HID Compliant Keyboard

Mice and other pointing devices > HID Compliant Mouse


I then rebooted the Laptop and finally after 3 weeks without being able to use the laptop keyboard, I now have a fully working computer again.

Hi i have an Asus Notebook and i faced the same problem but after pressing fn+ num lk bottom ( at the same time ) i had all my numpad keys working without any problem
