[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]Anonymous...lol just another bunch of egomaniacs looking for attention. So they can launch a DDoS attack...so can my 10yo nephew if I get him the right software. In reading their dribble they try to sound intelligent but come up way short.[/citation]

Yes they seek attention.. so they use the name "Anonymous." Makes complete sense..

They're a bit...selfless, narcissistic, and proud. But the cause they stand for is just, and in the way the world is turning these days, they make up the most effective 'hero' that's possible. I say good for them!

oh wow, there smart, they can set up a continuous server ping through dos -_- ....idiots

Doing Vigilante work on the internet.
wanted by the Law, and doing illegal acts to change the world.
Let's face it there the Batman of the Internet.

Al least their reasons are noble So when's someone gonna do this to apple and att because dare I say they are getting out of hand

I agree. If Anonymous really cared about free speech they'd target apple who routinely uses sweatshop labor in China to make their products.

Those people not only lack free speech but also basic human rights. If Anonymous really was the Batman of the internet they'd do something about Apple.

But they aren't.

This all makes me laugh because Sony recently had my Internet connection shut down because I was file sharing a legal update to Final Fantasy 7 for PC. I own the freaking game. Bit Torrent was a much faster means of getting the file than downloading it from the slow update site. Screw you Sony.

Well they can also dig up personal info on individuals involved and do serious damage to their reputations. Reputation is a major factor for lawyers and CEOs, those types of people tend to have some skeletons in their walk-in closets. And really, taking down a site may not seem like a big deal, but taking the PS store down? That IS going to cost Sony sales.

In the end, no one can really do much to deter Sony, since they're too out of touch to even realize what's wrong with their actions, but at the end of the day at least they won't come out easy.

Anonymous is interesting because it's new, but unlike new things, you can't just be a "me too" groupie, or copy their rhetoric (you can, but read on).

You mess around with this haphazardly and serious consequences lie in the end. This may advantage Anonymous, because they are probably going to get stupid people joining who don't see the full implications of their actions and then get shot down quickly as a result (of being stupid); you'll also get dedicated members that probably have a brain on their shoulders and a type of nature in tune with the central rhetoric (or whatever you call it). Let's not forget that those who are neutral to them will not join either (because it is illegal). That seems like a pretty good way to build up a virtual force since it weeds the weak and untrustworthy out by nature; ironically, many of these theoretical benefits occur naturally due to institutions established by those that seek to destroy them.

Spies may be a worry though, but the nature of their organizational structure/tools must be such that this factor is mitigated in some way, or else they would already be gone. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with what they've done, are doing, or will do, but simply that it is interesting to see just how complex this organization (or whichever noun they wish to use to describe themselves) is. This is not as open and shut as some seem to make it and I will keep a keen eye on them. Thanks Tomshardware for keeping me informed!

You do realized that almost every company bank and government is criminal and they should attack them all. They do not have the time or resources to do such a thing. Stop being a mouth breathing e-Diot!

Why is it that whenever I picture groups like this I imagine a bunch of strong, beret wearing vigilantes who are packing heat, when in reality they are probably just a bunch of weedy, four-eyed and malnourished basement dewllers with a lack of viamin-D.

I guess it must be the way they write... anyone would think Sony facilitate mass genocide, when in actual fact they pretty much do what every other large company does, only this time it directly affects a bunch of savvy computer nerds, with a lot of pent-up anger.

Anonymous is nothing, unless they can make their targets bank account zero amount, everything else is just a childish temper tantrum.
it's stupid stuff like this that intel put processor id's on pentium 3's for.
if the idiots at sony play their cards right and track this ddos IP back to any where in afganistan at any stage of the trace they will get to play the terrorist card and have a chance at the DOJ letting experts find them. by threatening us judges how ever that is an automatic so...
while i don't care for sony's b.s.
my only hope is there's an F-18 and a gbu involved where ever they are, just because i like to see stuff blow up.

"If you disagree with the disciplinary actions against your private parts domains, then we trust you can also understand our motivations for these actions. You own your domains. You paid for them with your own money. Now Anonymous is attacking your private property because we disagree with your actions. And that seems, dare we say it, "wrong." Sound familiar?"
^--- is actually a fairly solid point

Anonymous is actually a pretty passive group if you think about it. They usually don't do anything till the shit hits the fan.

I believe there will be a WWIII. I believe there will be the "end of the world". I believe WWIII will be a war fought online, and result in the end of the "cyber" world. Or internet if you prefer.

Just thinking a bit too much perhaps, it's late. I for one agree with the actions of Anonymous.
