Hi guys,

I have a wee Sony Vaio VPCW126AG that I was given a while ago with a HDD problem so I took my external apart and put the HDD in and it booted just fine, loaded Windows 7 on it, etc.... After a couple of days I removed the HDD and put it back in my external case and waited on the replacement drive that I had ordered.

In those couple of days my partner decided to charge the netbook overnight. The next afternoon I noticed it was still plugged in but the charger light was not lighting up. After a couple of days it was put away in the cupboard thinking that I need to replace the charger now.

About 6 months later I was bored and pulled it out to check the specs of the charger and turned it on and away it went, I plugged the charger in and away that went too.

Now I attempted to load Windows 7 on it again with the new HDD and just near the end of the installation it died on me. Every time I turn it on now it starts to boot then dies, but if I leave it for a couple of days it will boot just past the BIOS then die.

I have tried re-seating the RAM and turning on without the battery. I also removed the battery and charger and held down the power button then tried again. I've left it charging for a few hours but every time is the same.

Does anyone have any other ideas please before I throw it in the trash?

Hi,

You've pretty much done all the possible troubleshooting but last one there is to try a different AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if the same problem will persist or not. If it doesn't work as with a different charger that means the problem is the motherboard unfortunately.

I should also mention that the charger light is on and the leds indicating the charger and battery are working on the netbook. I dont currently have another charger with the same specs but ive just asked on facebook if any of my friends have one I could test it on
