Spiral.tsk file in ROM?

I download some background themes for my IPAQ 4155. One of them was called
Spiral.tsk. It is a blue spiral. When I try to delete it using file
explorer, it says the file is in ROM and cannot be deleted. How could
something I downloaded be put into ROM memory? I've looked at the
properties of the file and it is listed as Read Only and System file. I
cannot change it's properties. How is this possible?

It is possible you downloaded sprial.tsk but it was already in the ROM
of your 4100. The one you are unable to delete is the ROM version. :)

Are you sure this is one you downloaded? Since I have in my ROM (iPAQ
2210) also a spiral.tsk (the blue one, with the spiral of a chair). If
you would have downloaded a spiral.tsk and placed it in RAM, it would
have hidden that ROM file from view, which would only be visible again
after you'd have deleted the RAM based file and soft resetted your
device.

This is probably an oft answered question, but *why* can't we delete the
..tsk file in ROM?

Becasue it is in ROM... Files in ROM cannot be changed without a special
utility to reflash them.

Read Only Memory...ROM

You can't delete any file in ROM that contains the operating system
image.

Well, since the ROM contains the OS, you could cause potentially
irrepairable harm if you deleted the wrong files. Secondly, the ROM
files take up no user-accessible RAM in the device, so deleting any of
them would gain you nothing (you couldn't reuse the space for your own
storage use.)

It must be the case. I download several different .tsk files including the
spiral from some website. Didn't realize that there already was a
SPIRAL.TSK by default in the ROM.

Thanks
