[citation][nom]feeddagoat[/nom]To summerise Religion and Science aren't mutually exclusive. The like of Creation vs Evolution its the same evidence just different ways of interpreting it. Either way it takes faith to believe whole heartedly that either is correct.[/citation]

Religion and science aren't mutually exclusive. But Abrahamic Creationism is just plainly stupid. Most Jews and Chrisitans don't literally believe in Creationism anyways.

[citation][nom]georgec666[/nom]@liveonc, I don’t get what you are trying to say. It seems that you have some sort of grievance against Stephen Hawkins, maybe in his conduct, what he said? Maybe I’m just stupid, so can you clarify it like you would to a 10 year old?[/citation]

I haven't got ANYTHING against Hawking. In fact I feel sorry for him & sad that I just don't believe that science can help him be what he once was. That said, I also don't see how being against the concept of life after death is a bad thing & if I were him, I'd hope that it's better than what he has now.

That he represents an object of inspiration to many who look up to him, & instead of using that in a way to bridge Science & Faith, he chooses to widen that gap, I see it as just another brick in the wall. Maybe there you'll find the reason as to why I feel it's such an issue. There's already two clubs out to make it increasingly hard to not choose sides. Either you're for or against, but nobody is allowed to be friendly with people you haven't met, but is the mortal enemy. It's like gangsta warfare. I'm tired of having to choose sides, but I'm being forced to & punked by everyone else.

I don't care how smart he may be but he is a delusional individual at best. Intellect without wisdom doesn't make one great and his thinking is very flawed. He reminds me of Alchemist of the 14th and 15th centuries. They create elaborate and extravagant theories to justify their flowed models and thought processes. Remove the veneer of grandeur and all you find is a little man. Much of the same applies to the rest. Great thinkers of our age or not does not make them great thinkers of history. They will never understand the secrets of the universe much less unlock them and all they will ever find or understand is the basics.

Bigfoot is just a bunch of hairy hillbillies, finally debunked.
We're flying in UFOs
And people are already worshipping Lady Gaga's p3nis, but should be a legit religion in 20 years. :)

PS: Have seen her in a club... didn't know she was in town for a show, man a lot of people around her. Oh well, got back to my drinks. ;)

Your right Liveonc. Any form of extremist is wrong. Then why don’t you try philosophy, the land of limbo between theology and science. Just don't lose your mind on the way.

Two things separates people from each other: Religion and Greed.

Unless you are in a same religion, or if you are in a same economic upbringing, there will always be conflicting views on things because of subjective view on things. Science will only have one answer.

I think Rodney King summarized this very well when he said "Can't we all just get along?"

Limbo is in itself an invention created to force people to get baptized. My Religion says that if you didn't know, you didn't know, & if you died before you signed up, it's not an automatic ticket to damnation. But that it's a requirement to be honest about & proud of being a member, is why every person should at least inform of what he can, as best as he can, & why he feels that way. It doesn't justify forcing others to believe, only to stand up for what you believe. Philosophy is just a way of explaining something without Religion. It's not the same as trying to understand your own Religion, in the way it's meant to be understood.

[citation][nom]LADY_GAGAS_P3NIS[/nom]The Bible and Torah are the equivalent of modern-day tabloids set in ancient Palestine, they sure didn't put a lot of thought into whether the stories would stand up to closer examination without contradicting each other. It's bad enough that people even believe they are true, much less that they are the "ultimate truth" to trump any other facts derived from logic and reason. 2000 years from now, we'll be worshiping Bigfoot, UFOs, and Lady Gaga's p3nis.[/citation]

You are clearly wrong and only serve to discredit legitimate debate on this topic. It is comments like this that make such debates a dung slinging contest.

[citation][nom]TheCapulet[/nom]Congratulations! You've just made the first religion bashing comment in a Steven Hawking thread! I'm surprised someone hadn't made a fool of themselves sooner.[/citation]

Well, I just arrived! God exists, I am god!

Crazy americans.
An interview like this would go alot different in europe.

This is just just stir up some controversy and hype, not about what the man has to say.
Even a guy like hawking is having to pick his words ('god may exist') when talking to those biggots.

Peer pressure and human copycat behavior are ugly things.

I respect the hell out of Hawking. We all know he is an atheist, but he doesn't go spouting that all Christians are stupid or God doesn't exist.

Maybe Europe invented Marxism, but Americans invented Fast Food. So who has more blood on their hands & who cares if people like(d) Ivan & Ivan went broke? That's not Socialism, that was Communism, where nobody owned a thing, people turned in their own family, Stalin got a burial, & Lenin was put on display.

"Maybe Europe invented Marxism, but Americans invented Fast Food." Lets not forget Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Bush, Sarah Palin, bad tv shows for ADD people.

[citation][nom]jed65[/nom]So now that we know one tenth of one percent we can explain away "the need for a creator"??? God created, God cares and Jesus died for you. Can science explain why Jesus died for you?[/citation]
I haven't seen proof, other then a story some one wrote, that he even lived or did those things the story says :p

Are you Jewish? Muslims say someone who looked like Jesus, got nailed to the cross (as a traitor), & that The Messiah got to go to Heaven without having to die or be put to shame & display. I'm happy for him, & actually quite jealous.

"God may exist, but science can explain the universe without the need for a Creator."

That's obviously an answer to avoid criticism and debate. For example, nearly half of Americans believe the earth is only ~ 10,000 years old despite contrary empirical evidence. I presume this is due to a religious slant on the matter. I would avoid any theological debate as well, as theologians are immune to logic and reason.

"We are in danger of destroying ourselves by our greed and stupidity. We cannot keep looking inward at ourselves on this small and increasingly polluted and overcrowded."

Just thought this needed restating. Especially the first sentence. Especially.
