Tether Camera to network/ftp for remote shooting

I want to setup a dslr at home and be able to shoot from my iphone. Is there a camera, adapter, or setup I can use to shoot photos while I'm at work thru my iphone? So far I see wifi cameras but its only when your phone is near. I saw something on nikon about ftp connection but not much information was there. I don't have a camera yet but want to purchase based on this parameter. I can also hook the camera up to my phone but I need to be able to shoot and access the photos away from my apartment.

Some cameras like the 80D (https/www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/products/details/cameras/dslr/eos-80d) support remote live view, but no camera supports what you're talking about directly. What you are describing is an IP security camera, and you should take a look at those first.

I tried it on a fresh Raspian install. The one error I made is that I ran the script from the Pi directory and copied the files to /var/www later and reran the script. Don't know if that makes any difference.

Nothing can do this. Not light room's weather function, not Nikon's FTP, as far as I know. Now at the Rio Olympics, Getty images has an elaborate setup where pictures are immediately uploaded to a central server and can be published 120 seconds after they are taken. But, this is a normal function of the nearly $7,000 cameras that most of the pros there are using and the cameras and server are on the same network.

From a $200 4 camera Lorex surveillance system, I can do a screencap from anywhere on the planet, at any moment I choose, in a random browser.

Now...why are you wanting to do this with a DSLR to an iPhone over the interwebs?
Cause that won't work.
