[Theoretical] eGPU for MSI GT60-424

Hello, I was procrastinating and read a few articles on external graphics for laptops. There are some existing currently, like Alienware's but that only works for their products.

I have an MSI GT60-424 laptop, with i7-4810MQ and gtx 870m 3GB. So the laptop has a D-sub (VGA), but also compatible to thunderbolt port (?).

If possible, I'd like to use the GTX 970, how does it connect to a normal desktop motherboard in terms of cables? The article I read listed the use of a PE4L board. Then what cables would I need to connect the card to the laptop, and would I need an adapter? (http/www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1191969-external-gpu-for-laptops-supercharge-your-graphics/)

If money is no object, you can use an external rack: www.villageinstruments.com

The PE4L board is limited to a single PCI-e lane, so your GTX970 performance will be much lower than your integrated 870M.
