looking to get a tivo unit for DirecTV.
I would like a DVR that has two tuners with two outputs.
So that Picture in picture will work.
It looks like the Ultimate receiver has this feature.

Thanks

It was discontinued 3 years ago. Many new TVs have
picture in picture (or picture side by picture for
some wide screen models), so you could have DirecTv on one and
OTA on the other.

I believe all TiVo units have at least two simultaneous outputs (I have
one going to my VCR and one going directly to my TV for example).

The thing is, TiVo outputs the same thing to both so you can't really
do PiP with it since you will get the exact same output to your PiP
window.

True, though if Tivo thought it was worthwhile, they could probably do
PIP within the Tivo itself. Hmm, I suppose they could use that
strangely appropriate, but designated "for future use", "Window" button
on the remote ;).

Of course, with single tuner models, they could only show one live or
recording channel with one recorded show. With dual tuners you could
show 2 recording shows.

None of the TiVo units have two simultaneous outputs, sorry.

UltimateTV is not TiVo - they haven't made a new UltimateTV box in
*years*, Microsoft abandoned it.

Unfortunately, true. The last software update for it was around 20 months
ago. In a number of respects the UTV interface is superior to the TiVo
one (in others, especially the conflict resolution, TiVo wins).

Shame Microsoft abandoned it! It definitely gives the DirecTiVo a run for
it's money!

Probably should have said TiVo units aren't equipped with 2 discrete
outputs...

As others have pointed out, UltimateTV is dead. It didn't have two
independent outputs, AFAIK. It had a picture-in-picture function built
into the receiver. IOW, your TV's PIP feature is not used.
