Toshiba Satellite laptop keeps shutting off during system recovery

I'm trying to restore it to factory settings with the disc. Followed the steps until it restarted and started the recovery process, but it never seems to reach 25% on the progress bar before it shuts down (or maybe goes into sleep mode, I can't tell). It doesn't seem to stop on the same spot or file every time. When I hit the power button it just boots up to the same progress screen and starts again from 0%.

Any idea whats causing this?

In case anyone else comes across this problem. I popped the battery out and put a laptop cooling fan under it and it fixed the issue. I guess it was overheating (which is weird).
