Unsupported signal error vga cable HP notebook

Hi guys, I need your help.

I have an HP notebook which I have successfully connected to my Sony TV in the past through VGA. Out of the blue the other day, I turned it on and connected it as usual and the resolution had changed to really crappy one and it was suddenly just occupying a small square on my very large screen.

I panicked and while trying to disconnect and reconnect the VGA cable I noticed that one of the from the cable had been bended. The cable was ruined.

I went out to bus an exact replica of the cable today. Same store and same brand same everything.

But unfortunately as I tried connecting I just kept on getting a black screen and a message "Unsupported signal. Adjust your PC output" .

I tried tout change the project to screen settings to " extend instead of duplicate and it worked but again small screen so I reverted to old settings and started working with the resolution.

The only two settings it will allow me is either the 800 ×600 and the 1024 x 768. .
The only problem is that it used to pick up the maximum (1280 x 800).

I can't use it this way because the screen is projected into a square on the TV screen and it won't even get me my whole screen.

try another cable. check the connectors at each end point. Depending on which pin was bent and what it touched, you might have caused issues to the interface cards on either end. Try unplugging the TV and letting it sit for a while. As a last resort, try doing a factor reset on the tv to see if that helps.
