what to do to upgrade lenovo x120e with 1gb ram and windows starter so that the performances would be better

Solution
Basically the only thing you can do is upgrade the RAM. Lenovo states the maximum RAM supported is 4GB. Since there are two RAM slots that means two sticks of 2GB RAM. Having more RAM means less disk caching since 1GB of RAM means you pretty much run out of RAM very quickly and Windows must swap data between RAM and the hard drive very often which slows down the laptop. You can also upgrade the hard drive to a SSD to make the laptop a bit more responsive when launching programs as well.

However, the main problem with your laptop is the AMD E-240 or E-350 APU. They were considered slow APUs when they were released. But the APU cannot be upgraded since it is soldered into the motherboard.
