Upscaling 1080p to 2K problems

I have a 1440p monitor. And Just because I want to, Im trying to upscale 1080p video to 1440p, but when I render in 2k, the exported video either doesn't play, or is really choppy and has glitches. I'm rendering using Sony Vegas. Should I try rendering using premiere? I tried with after effects, and the same thing happened. Thank you for the help!

There will be a loss of quality when you try to upscale video. There is simply not enough video data to allow you to upscale without some loss of quality. Rendering with Premiere will not solve the problem.
