Usb cause notebook to freeze?

Hey guys, Ive been thrown a task of cleaning a mates messy laptop.
Now ive gotten everything running great except it freezes when I plug anything into the usb connectors, however if i am to boot with the usb plugged in everything works fines and i can read and write from it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try updating the BIOS and make sure you installed the chipset drivers for it. Sounds like this may be a physical issue with the ports or the controller if those don't fix it.
