I purchased a Toshiba DVR620KU VHS to DVD converter. It plays both VHS and DVD so that part is working. However, when following the directions for dubbing, the VHS doesn't play or else the dubbing doesn't work. Any ideas? Toshiba doesn't take calls any longer.
You won't be able to copy VHS tapes that are Macrovision copy guarded to prevent illegal dubbing. It should work with VHS tapes you made yourself.
Also make sure that the blank DVDs are the correct type for that recorder and follow the instructions in the manual
I'm only copying home VHS movies. No copyright issues. And my DVD's are DVD+R, which the instruction booklet says is fine. When I click VCR and either Pause or Stop, then switch to DVD, set it to SP, then hit the Dubbing button, it's supposed to start. I've tried that 4-5 times and the VHS does not play. Likewise, if I start the VHS so that it is playing, then do the same steps with the DVD, then hit the Dubbing button, it does not start the dubbing process. All tests are blank.
I was able to speak with the company that distributed the Toshiba unit. They said disks would not have to be formatted. They indicated people have not complained of this issue before and agreed I should send it back for an exchange.
