Are there any ways to make Chrome or IE extend web pages to the width of the browser window? For example, even if a Chrome or IE browser window are enlarged, or even maximized, web page content only occupies a column in the center of the browser window. Lots of wasted space. Is there anyway to change this?

Short of writing a plug-in, no. Pages are determined by what their development team tells them to be. The browser doesn't do anything except show you that document in the case of a web page.

Well, you can always zoom in with ctrl with mouse wheel scroll .
