What can I install to allow me to adjust my surround sound speaker's volume?

I have a Altec Lansing ADA-995 Dolby Digital 5.1 speaker system hooked up to my TV. I had to use the Optical Digital Audio out, a Digital to Analog converter, and a RCA to 3.5mm converter to get the speakers to work with my TV. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow me to adjust the volume through anything on the TV or TV menus. What could I install that would allow me to be able to adjust the volume?

Well, the problem is the speakers don't have a volume control. That's why I was wondering if there was anything I could add to be able to change the volume, like an equalizer or something.

There's nothing I can hook up like an equalizer or some kind of amplifier head that would allow me to adjust the volume? I ask because I have the existing speakers, and I am not looking forward to having to buy a whole new sound set up.

Did this work? Trying to do the exact same thing, Optical out through a digital/analog converter and then need volume control.

Thanks
