What causes the num light to go off ?

I have tried to notice exactly when it happens but I can't catch it screwing me up. I think it is an application or program that is sending a signal to the numeric keypad. I worked retails for years so when I use the keypad I don't need to see the keypad to work it.

I do not think that I am turning it off accidently? I seem to notice it after the laptop goes in sleep mode or when I use Google Earth.

If you have login password everytime you turn off/sleep the system, num will be off
